Industry Leadership. Institutional Strength. Advisor Focus.

Founded in 1982, Coventry created the secondary market for life insurance in 1998 and pioneered the life settlement industry. Today, Coventry is the largest buyer of life insurance policies in the secondary market and has completed more than $50 billion in longevity-linked transactions.

Coventry combines:

  • Deep life insurance expertise
  • Institutional capital strength
  • Proprietary underwriting and analytics
  • A vertically integrated case management platform

Coventry and its affiliates purchase approximately 50% of all policies transacted in the secondary market.(1) That scale reflects sustained market leadership, disciplined underwriting, and consistent execution across economic cycles.

Advisors work directly with Coventry’s in-house underwriting, financial analysis, and contract services teams. The result is institutional rigor, clear communication, and certainty of execution from initial valuation through closing.

Coventry: A Strategic Resource for your Practice.

Coventry helps NAIFA members expand revenue opportunities, deepen client relationships, and bring disciplined analysis to life insurance decisions.

Risk Management & Documentation

A documented market appraisal supports informed recommendations and strengthens your advisory process when policies are evaluated or discontinued.

Dedicated Support Structure

Regional coverage teams provide direct access, responsive communication, and coordinated execution throughout the lifecycle of each case.

Revenue Expansion

Introduce policy valuations as a standard review process, uncovering opportunities that can generate additional advisory revenue while delivering measurable client value.

Client Retention & Relationship Depth

Position life insurance as a managed asset class. Proactive reviews reinforce your role as a strategic advisor when clients consider lapse, surrender, or restructuring.

Speed & Certainty of Execution

Institutional underwriting and in-house case management streamline transactions, reduce friction, and preserve advisor control from initial review through closing.

Uncover Hidden Value in Existing Policies.

Coventry’s platform helps advisors treat life insurance as a strategic asset. A structured review can reveal value and flexibility that might otherwise be lost.

When to Review a Policy

  • The original purpose for coverage no longer exists
  • Premiums have increased or become burdensome
  • A term policy is nearing the end of its level period
  • Estate or business planning objectives have shifted
  • Liquidity is needed for retirement, healthcare, or other priorities

General eligibility typically includes insureds age 65 or older (younger insureds with significant health impairments may qualify) and policies with a face amount of $100,000 or greater.

Available Structures

  • Traditional Life Settlement: A fully underwritten sale for more than cash surrender value but less than the death benefit

  • Retained Death Benefit: Reduced coverage with no future premium obligations

  • Enhanced Cash ValueSM: A non-medically underwritten option for qualifying Universal Life policies

Payout Flexibility
Proceeds may be structured as a lump-sum payment, reduced coverage with no future premiums, or a combination of cash and retained coverage. There are no restrictions on how proceeds may be used, allowing alignment with broader financial, estate, and retirement strategies.
